Will grayscale mode work for you?
If you are looking for a quick fix to spend less time on your phone, then turning on Grayscale mode might interest you.
It's often suggested in online posts. It might even work for you.
But here are my concerns.
- On a practical level, the usefulness of this feature will depend on what you usually use your phone for. If you take a lot of photos or make videos for work purposes as I do, it will definitely annoy you, and possibly even make your end product of lesser quality.
- But a different concern of mine is that this strategy aims to take the pleasure out of using your phone. For me this is like buying only the ice cream flavours you hate, to prevent binge eating. Personally, I prefer to eat my favourite ice cream flavours and to enjoy the time I Choose to spend on my phone. The keyword here is choice. We often think we need to make the experience unpleasurable, when we feel that we have lost control. Be that ice cream consumption or phone-usage.
Instead what I do, and will suggest for you as well, is to work on your smartphone-habits.
Learn how to stay in control. Choose how much time you want to spend on your phone. Enjoy that time, and then put it down and go do all the other things that you want to fill your life with.
This is not as easy as it sounds. But it is something we can all learn.
We have made that process simpler for you with the "Crack your smartphone-addiction-course"
